Sussex Telecom was originally established as Sussex Centre Communications in 1988, to provide shared tenant telecommunications services to several locations in Toronto and Ottawa.

Sussex Long Distance Inc. (SLDI) was incorporated in 1994. As a nation-wide reseller of long distance, SLDI offered it's residential, corporate, and affinity clients long distance rates that are extremely competitive. SLDI also provided a complete range of additional telecommunications services such as teleconferencing, cellular LD and fax to e-mail to meet the needs of today's market.

Sussex Internet Inc. was formed in 1998, to provide internet services.

In October of 2014, all of the four companies of the Sussex Telecommunications Group were amalgamated under the single company, Sussex Telecom Inc.

Sussex Telecom Inc. also serves the needs of the long distance calling card and special services markets. Industrial grade processors are configured with complete redundancy to ensure continuous operation. It is the objective of STI to provide the industry with exceedingly competitive rates and a high degree of customisation. In addition, STI provides network based services such as stand-alone voice mail.

In 2002, STI began to offer private VoIP networks to selected clients; these networks now serve the Canadian far north, as well as several locations around the world.

Sussex Telecom, in partnership with Network Innovations of Calgary, AB has been a supplier of personal voice services to Canadian military personnel stationed in Afghanistan and other international bases. Both Network Innovations and Sussex are proud to have served the men and women of our military forces, by keeping them in touch with loved ones back home.
