Sussex takes telephone fraud very seriously. If a country is experiencing a high level of fraudulent activity, all Sussex Call Canada International calls from that country may be stopped to protect you from unsolicited or unreasonably high charges.
Be sure that you are accessing the Sussex Call Canada International network. You may encounter a hotel that subscribes to a service that re-routes Sussex Call Canada International calls to an alternative carrier. This means that instead of paying Canadian rates, you could end up paying as much as two, three, or more times the Sussex rate.
Your first indication of a problem is that the automated Sussex Call Canada International prompts are not available. A fraudulent service may say that there is a problem with your Calling Card, and ask for a credit card number. Be sure to follow these simple steps to protect yourself from fraud:
- Never give out your calling card number.
- Listen attentively to operator-assisted calls. An automated attendant should answer calls by saying: "Welcome to the Sussex Long Distance Network".
- If you are calling from a hotel, ask the front desk to inform you of the surcharge cost to call a Toll-Free number. Once the call is placed, it is charged at the Sussex rates.
